NPCI and Lyra Introduce UPI in France: Eiffel Tower Marks Historic Adoption
PARIS: NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL) partners with Lyra, a French e-commerce expert, to bring Unified Payments Interface (UPI) to France. The Eiffel Tower becomes the first merchant to accept UPI payments, easing transactions for Indian tourists.
They can now buy tickets online using UPI, simplifying the process. The move is significant as Indian tourists are the second-largest group at the Eiffel Tower. This initiative allows secure online transactions for Indian visitors, expanding opportunities for French and European merchants in tourism and retail. UPI’s success in India, with over 380 million users and 12.2 billion transactions in January 2024, positions it as a global instant payment system.
